A Learning Specialist from Brooklyn, NY with 17 years of experience in Inclusive Education. Ekene has taught a wide range of phenomenal learners in grades k-12 across settings such as small group/1:1 SETSS, ICT and General Education. She has been proud to serve families in NYC as an reading/writing interventionist at P.S. 206, KIPP Infinity Charter School, Community Roots Charter School and in private homes. Ekene's areas of expertise include Orton-Gillingham based reading/spelling intervention methods, the Hochman Writing Method, reading fluency and reading comprehension intervention, and attentional/executive functioning support structures. Ekene has a B.A. in Music & Africana Studies from Tufts University and an M.S.Ed from Hunter College. She has received training in best practices at The Churchill School, The Windward School, Teachers College and the (Intl. Dyslexia Assn.) Everybody Reads Conference. Ekene has served as a staff developer/coach of literacy intervention for the past 4 years. Ekene enjoys music and taking walks in Prospect Park with her kids on the weekends.
