Has been an early childhood educator for 12 years in New York City. For the past 5 years, she has taught Pre-Kindergarten, first, and second grade at Brooklyn Arbor Elementary School in Williamsburg. In addition to being a classroom teacher, she also tutors small groups of at risk students after school to increase their literacy skills. Heather has a Masters in Early Childhood Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities from Brooklyn College, and has NYS certification in Early Childhood Education and Students with Disabilities for Elementary and Early Childhood. Heather has received training in the Orton-Gillingham method and Handwriting Without Tears program and has attended professional development institutes hosted by The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. The importance attributed to the role of the environment, inquiry based investigations, and the emphasis on children's symbolic languages has helped guide her as a teacher.
