An Upper School French Teacher at Grace Church School. Prior to working at GCS, Matt taught all levels of French at The Chapin School, where he also organized the French exchange program. He graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from The Johns Hopkins University, with majors in French and Music, before completing an MA in French Cultural Studies at Columbia University Reid Hall, in Paris. He also holds an MA and MPhil in French & Romance Philology from Columbia University. While teaching French at Columbia, Matt was awarded the Jeanne Varney Pleasant Award for excellence in French Pedagogy. He has lived in France for 3 years, one of which he spent studying at the Ecole Normale Superieure. After his graduate studies, he taught at Yeshiva University where he helped develop the major and minor programs of study in the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures. An avid linguaphile, Matt also speaks Spanish and is learning Arabic. In his free time he enjoys playing the piano and hiking his way through the Grandes Randonnées, having recently completed the tour de Mont Blanc in the Alps and a hike around Toubkal in the High Atlas.
