  • Homas Charroppin Tutor

    Thomas has been teaching Social Studies and Math in New York City since 2007. He currently teaches 7th grade U.S. History at a public school in the West Village, but has spent most of his career teaching high school. He has taught 9th grade global history, 10th grade global history, 11th grade law, 12th grade AP English, French, algebra, geometry, and AP Calculus. His original background is in math, but he ended up earning a BA from NYU in Political Science, and MA from NYU in Social Studies education. Thomas was born in Paris and grew up in France until he moved to the United States at age 17. As a tutor, since Thomas has a background in both math and social studies, he works with students on both numeracy and literacy skills. He also helps students prepare for state tests and Regents exams. He loves robotics, historical true crime books, and STEAM activities on his free time.

  • Madeleine Elfenbein Tutor

    Madeleine has experience working with students from elementary school through the college level. Born and raised in New York’s Morningside Heights neighborhood, she attended St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s and Horace Mann before earning her BA in Social Studies from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago. She has taught essay-writing to middle-schoolers in Izmir, Turkey and advanced composition to undergraduates in Chicago, where she also taught courses in history and political thought and led pedagogy workshops with the Chicago Center for Teaching. Madeleine is also an experienced tutor for students preparing for the SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, SAT, and ACT. Her favorite part of teaching is helping students make connections between what they’re struggling to learn and what they already know.

  • Sarah Forer Tutor

    Sarah currently teaches sixth grade Language Arts and Social Studies at The Windward School, a school for children with language-based learning disabilities. Previously, she has worked with children in a variety of settings over the past ten years as a camp counselor, nanny, and tutor. Sarah is trained in using the Orton-Gillingham method, a multisensory approach to support phonics and reading comprehension. She holds a B.A. in Education and Psychology from Bucknell University. In order to continue serving children and their families, Sarah will pursue her graduate education at the NYU Silver School of Social Work beginning in the fall of 2020. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends and family, cooking, and traveling.

  • Ari Friedman Tutor

    Ari is in his eleventh year of teaching high school social studies. For the past six years, he has taught 10th Grade Global History, 11th Grade AP United States History, and 12th Grade Government and Economics. He has also taught 8th Grade American History and 9th Grade Global History. Ari has years of experience working with students in a full classroom and on a one-on-one basis, and devotes a significant amount of his teaching time helping his students develop and hone their historical reading, writing, and analytical skills. Ari graduated from NYU with a B.A. in Contemporary American Politics, and from Columbia University Teachers College with an M.A. in the Teaching of Social Studies (Grades 7-12).

  • Amy Frost Boyd Tutor

    Amy has taught history to 8th through 12th grade students attending the New York City public schools for nearly a decade. Experienced with the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, Amy is passionate about differentiating tutoring instruction based on students’ academic, social and emotional needs. Certified as a Mindful Schools instructor, Amy is equipped to lead students in developing different stress management and focus strategies. She is experienced in working with students one-on-one to emphasize research-based writing. She graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with majors in Urban Studies and Anthropology. She holds a masters degree in Teaching Adolescent Social Studies from Fordham University and a second masters degree in School Leadership from Hunter College. In her free time, Amy can be found outside playing with her two young daughters, doing yoga or drinking delicious coffee.

  • Michael Giovacchini Tutor

    Michael currently teaches Earth Science, Writing, Social Studies and Reading at Emma Lazarus High School. He has tutored both high school and middle school students in the humanities, math and science, among other subjects, and has also provided executive function support. A graduate of Dartmouth College with an MA in Teaching Earth Science, Michael was a former professor basketball player. His diverse teaching experience includes working as both an English Language fellow and as a Master Teacher Fellow at Math for America.

  • Naomi Gold Tutor

    Naomi Gold is a 6th grade Humanities teacher at The Heschel School. She previously taught high school and middle school English at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Maryland. There, in addition to her standard classes, she taught a Structured Skills English class, focusing on helping students of all levels build the skills they need to become thoughtful and organized readers and writers. She has also taught creative writing at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program in Hong Kong. Naomi earned her B.A. in Communication from Rutgers University, where she discovered her love of teaching while tutoring undergraduate and graduate students in expository writing. She earned her M.A. in Teaching of English at Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition to helping students discover a love of language, Naomi enjoys travel, historical fiction, and stand-up comedy.

  • Catherine Henry Tutor

    Catherine is an upper school history and English teacher at the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. Prior to that, she taught in Scarsdale and Rye Neck high schools in the suburbs of New York City. In her years of tutoring, Catherine has worked with middle and high school students grades six through twelve helping students tackle assignments small and large, as well as developing skills in writing, organization, and critical thinking. Catherine has also worked with students on test prep for the Advanced Placement and SAT subject tests in US, World and European history, as well as literature. In addition to her role as a teacher, Catherine has coached high school mock trial and debate teams. Catherine has a BA in history with a minor in English from Fairfield University, a JD from Boston College Law School and completed her teaching certification coursework at Manhattanville Graduate School of Education.

  • Bradley Highfield Tutor

    Brad previously taught Civics and Economics to seniors at Manhattan Hunter Science High School, who attend their final year on campus at CUNY Hunter College. An alumni of CUNY Hunter College, he graduated with a dual BA in History-Adolescent Education and Special Honors, Bradley recently completed his master’s degree in American Studies at Columbia University, with a concentration in American History and Political Science. Currently, he is working with the educational nonprofit Publicolor, where he engages at-risk students in their education. He has also successfully tutored students in preparation for the New York State US History Regents Exam for the past five years.

  • Abby Plump Tutor

    Abby is in her twelfth year of teaching middle and high school social studies. She is currently working as an eighth grade social studies teacher at a community middle school in District 2. She started her career at New Heights Academy Charter School teaching US history for seven years, and then spent four years working at Special Music School teaching Global I, US History, and AP Government and Politics courses. Abby received her B.A. in history from Binghamton University and her M.A. in the teaching of social studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has worked with a wide range of students with varying abilities on organizational skills, thematic and document-based writing skills, advanced placement preparation, research, and strong study habits. Abby's goal as a tutor is to build strong connections, provide support to elevate student confidence, and develop problem-solving strategies to foster independence.

  • Gila Yarmush Tutor

    Gila is a NYC public school 7th grade Humanities (ELA and Social Studies) teacher. Prior to teaching middle school, Gila taught high school Global History as a New York City Teach for America corps member. Gila majored in History at Yeshiva University's Stern College for Women and earned her Masters in Teaching from Fordham University. Gila wants to help her students appreciate the process of learning and feel confident in the classroom.

  • Timothy Yun Tutor

    Tim has taught and tutored elementary, middle, and high school students and currently teaches as a 10th grade history/special education teacher at Churchill School and Center in Manhattan. He studied Sociology, Psychology, and English at Case Western in Cleveland, and obtained his Master’s in Secondary History Education at Brown. Tim worked for a non-profit in Los Angeles, and then interned at the White House before teaching English in South Korea under a Fulbright grant. Tim is a native Californian who’s been teaching in New York City for 5 years. He likes biking, running, watching sci-fi films, and scoping out good food in the city.

  • David Zheutlin Tutor

    David taught for more than seven years as eighth grade history teacher and grade-level dean at Trevor Day School. He coached sports, led the student council, and spent many afternoons tutoring. Prior to teaching, he was a counselor and athletic director at a summer camp in Maine. David always cherished his time in school, from his childhood years at Pine Crest School in Florida, and looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm with new students. A graduate from Amherst College, where he majored in History, David enjoys living in Brooklyn, playing pickup basketball, traveling during school vacations, and writing for pleasure.
